Note:  Rule of Twelfths Calculations

In some parts of the world, such as South Africa (2010), the rule of twelfths is used over the full period between HW and LW.  This is  unlike in the United Kingdom, where the rule is almost always used as a “rough and ready” approximation over 6 hrs

What’s more, some theory students are expected to work to 0.01 m (1 cm) instead of the 0.1 m (10 cm) that UK students are usually required to work to

In order to help all students check their work, a spreadsheet is available.  It can be downloaded by clicking on the links on the right

The spreadsheet was developed in Ms Office 2007 and has been saved in three versions:

Ÿ
Ms Office 2007
Ÿ
Ms Office 97-2003 and
Ÿ
Open Office

Open Office is available as a free download from OpenOffice.org
